The Donation Box
(home)

Wild Bird Landing is proud to support local community organizations in two ways:
First, through the donations of our generous customers, we make donations to no-kill shelters and animal rescue agencies;
Second, through company donations to community fundraising efforts.

Gypsy, Meghan, Winter, and Marduk's Donation Box:

Though Gypsy and Meghan are no longer with us in body, they are with us no less than ever in spirit. Our box will always be in their honor as well as our more recent canine family members, Buddy, Hunter, Archie, and Diana.

In the summer of 2004, in the names of our dogs, we placed a donation box on our counter, to accept contributions which would be donated to local no-kill shelters and animal rescue operations. In October, 2004, through the generosity of you, our customers, we were able to make our first two loving donations to two local no-kill animal shelters. All of the donations made to these shelters and rescue organizations are listed here, with the most recent at the top. We do want to assure you that every penny of your donations is contributed to the shelters, and thank you all for your continuing generosity!

November, 2006
We have made a donation from our box to the Front Range Equine Organization. Larger animals need our help just as much as our indoor companion animals, and we are thankful this season to have been able to assist another animal rescue organization. Thanks to everyone as always.

July, 2006
The donations have not stopped pouring in, nor have we stopped sending them to animal care and rescue organizations! Donations have been made in the last months to two of our favorite friends, Alley Cat Allies and MaxFund, as well as to the Humane Society of the U.S., and Colorado parrot rescue organization The Gabriel Foundation. Please visit the web site of this wonderful foundation. Its story is worth reading, and its work is much needed.

December, 2005
In conjunction with our donation box, Wild Bird Landing also made two additional donations to shelters this past month. Times have been tough for everyone recently, and with the recent cold spell, the animals needed our help more than ever. Donations were made to Alley Cat Allies and Colorado Horse Rescue, both for their winter feeding programs.

We have also received a lovely thank-you card for our donation to Wild B.I.R.D.. Remember, this is thanks to all of you, and we are glad to pass along the words of appreciation for the funds that you all have contributed. For more information about the work done by this and other similar organizations, please see our Songbird Notes article, here.

Printed text at right of card reads, "The Board of Directors of Wild B.I.R.D. would like to thank you for your contributions and support. Without your help, hundreds of birds this season might not have gotten the chance to overcome hardship and be re-released back into the wild. The center's success is based solely on the donations and volunteer time we receive each year and we appreciate you being a part of that effort. We look forward to your continued support as we expand our services and wild bird stewardship in the metro area.  And remember, that bird looking at you from the tree, wire, or bird feeder could have been a recipient of your generosity!"

September, 2005
In light of our own call to action for aid to the Colorado Humane Society's Hurricane Katrina Pet Relief Drive, we felt it only appropriate to make a contribution from our donation box to this more-than-worthwhile cause.
We have also made a donation to Wild B.I.R.D., or Wild Bird Information and Rehabilitation of Denver. Our customers might better know this non-profit organization as the two ladies to whom we refer those who call us with questions about how to help injured wild birds, and especially babies that fall from their nests. We appreciate these ladies' information and efforts in an area of service that we ourselves cannot provide.  We know we send many people and birds their way, and we wanted to help provide them with some of the resources they need to fund their work.
Again, we give thanks for the overwhelming generosity of our customers, the animal lovers.

June, 2005
At our June 18 Summer Celebration, we donated some of our "box" funds to MaxFund while they were in attendance. We also cleaned out our "wishing well fountain" in the store and donated that change to HawkQuest. Currently as of July, our box has filled again, and we will be deciding which shelter to send the funds to and making that donation shortly. Update to follow!

May 2005
We have made a second donation to Colorado Horse Rescue, for their "Phantom Ball" fundraiser. This fundraiser described all of the events of a formal masked ball, with the catch being that it was not physically held! Instead of putting up the expense of holding such an event, the funds raised in the name of the Phantom Ball all went straight to the animals. We thought this was such a great creative idea, and of course an ever-worthy organization, that we could not resist contributing. We also received a lovely thank-you letter from CHR, posted in the store, which of course is actually thanks to all of you for your contributions.
Again, our donation box has filled with the bills, coins, and wishes of our customers, and we will shortly be announcing yet another donation to a no-kill animal shelter or rescue group. Thank you all so much, from us and from the animals!

March, 2005
We would like to pass along to you the thanks which we have received for your contributions. With each donation, we've let the recipients know that the support they are receiving is coming from our caring customers. Both shelters to which our initial donations were made in October sent lovely thank-you cards, with handwritten messages of appreciation to everyone involved. Since receiving them, we have had the cards posted in the store for everyone to see. At this point they're beginning to look a little ragged and it is time to put these mementos aside for safekeeping. However we'll keep them posted here in thanks to everyone who contributed.
"The Dogs' Box" has also magically filled again, and we're deciding who should be the next recipient.  There is certainly no lack of worthy organizations. We'll update here when that donation has been sent out.

January, 2005
Your wonderful generosity has continued. Our most recent donation was made to Colorado Horse Rescue. For 16 years, this organization has provided "shelter, care, rehabilitation, and adoption services for abused, abandoned, neglected, and unwanted horses." (Colorado Horse Rescue mission statement)
From everyone at Wild Bird Landing, thanks to all of you for helping us add to the resources of such organizations whose efforts we so wholeheartedly believe in.

October, 2004
One donation has been made to MaxFund, a no-kill shelter for injured animals without owners. Maxfund has also, when possible, taken in animals from other overcrowded shelters in the country in cases of emergency, in many cases rescuing animals from abusive and neglectful situations.
The second donation went to Animal Rescue and Adoption Society, a no-kill shelter for homeless and abandoned cats.
Both shelters are funded strictly by fundraisers and by donations from the community. Both have been highly recommended by some of you as worthy recipients.
Thanks to all of you who have helped our special friends. Our donation box will remain in place at Wild Bird Landing, every penny donated will go to animal care facilities, and we will continue to let you know what worthy animal causes your contributions have supported.
Again, many thanks to all who have filled our little box with love for animals in need.
