All of the varieties of suet cakes provide much-needed protein and fat, in the winter and all year round.
|
The most basic suet feeders are simple, square wire cages. They can be hung, or can clamp onto a pole.
Woodpeckers and some other larger birds like to brace their tail feathers against a tail-prop suet feeder. |
Woodpeckers, chickadees, goldfinches, and nuthatches will cling and feed from an upside-down suet feeder.

This "squirrel- proof" caged suet feeder holds two suet or seed cakes in the protected inner cage.

Black oil sunflower cakes, safflower seed cakes, and
Pecan Feast nut cakes all are favorites. The birds stay at the feeder long enough to work a seed or nut free, giving you a great opportunity to get a good look. Most seed cakes are the same sizes as suet cakes, and can be fed from any of the styles of suet feeders. |

Hang a seed bell or nut bell
(not shown) in a matching bell- shaped feeder. Another fun variation of a seed cake. |
Mr. Bird's Wild Bird Feast and Pecan Feast rounds are a great treat food or vacation block. Offer either variety on the "E-Z Feeder" stand.
